A Corner in the New York City Public Library

New York Public Library

Yesterday I had the great pleasure to wander around New York City with some amazing people: Leanne Cole, Stacy Fisher,  Robert Marsala, and Nicci Carrera.  One of our stops was the New York Public Library – wow!  If you have never been inside you need to add it to your bucket list.  The architecture is inspiring and the people watching…entertaining.   And if you are a lover of books…you’ll feel right at home.

Rena – Isn’t that smile welcoming?

We dined at Oregano late on a Saturday afternoon before taking a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.  Oregano was about a 15 minute drive from the bridge.  The atmosphere was quaint, we dined on the back patio where there is a garden with a peach tree, grapes hang from the portico, and flowers and herbs growing in pots.

The food was full of flavor, savory and very enjoyable.  We had pizza from the large list of options on the menu.  The crust was thin and fabulous.  The sauce was made with fresh tomatoes and was lite and delicious.  The chicken parmesan was, according to my son, great!  The salads were refreshing and delightful and the desserts won us over.   The homemade, made on the premises, Tiramisu was divine.  The chocolate mousse and cannoli were scrumptious.

If you ever travel to Brooklyn, be sure to stop at Oregano.  You won’t be disappointed.

On Cloud Nine

On Cloud Nine

While window shopping in New York City last week this window caught my attention.

I love the complimentary colors; blue and orange.  The view through the glass adds

a bit of depth and reflection and gives a perception of floating with the clouds.  I’d like to

give credit to the person who created this display, but I unfortunately don’t remember

for certain what store window this was.  My best guess is

Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue.

Street Performers

Some depend on meager

Talents to get by, often

Rebuked, while

Everyone watches and

Everyone judges,

Thinking they’re soulless because they’re homeless.

Upon writing this post I do not know that the couple in the images is homeless.  However, while in Portland in August we did see a large number of homeless people, some of who were street performers.  The acrostic poem is dedicated to all those who, for whatever reason; choice, recklessness, drugs, alcohol, mental illness, etc. are homeless and trying to get by with the little money they make putting a smile on the face of a tourist or a local by using whatever hope and talent they have left.

I just wish that I had caught the light on the light house…  😦  When traveling with kids and a husband, however, patience is not in abundance.

I’d love to have your feedback.  What do you think?

Cherries

The Pacific Northwest was our destination of choice for vacation this year.  We traveled the Oregon Coast and through the states of Washington and  Idaho.  During our drive from Oregon to Washington we went through Cascade Locks.  I saw the opportunity for the first image right as we entered the town.  I had to stop to capture this man’s essence.  He was so charming.  When I asked if I could photograph him he said “Sure, my name is…”  If only I could remember his name.  But I kid you not, it was something similar to Bobby Dean Jones that just totally fit him and his personality.

For a more artistic spin on cherries, I spent a bit of time photographing the very delicious jewels I had in my kitchen.

Life is a Bowl of Cherries I

“Life is just a bowl of cherries, dont take it serious, its mysterious. Life is just a bowl of cherries, so live and laugh and laugh at love, love a laugh, laugh and love.” – Bob Fosse

Cherries are Mysterious

When I sound the fairy call, gather here in silent meeting,

Chin to knee on the orchard wall, cooled with dew and cherries eating.

Merry, merry, take a cherry, mine are sounder, mine are rounder,

Mine are sweeter for the eater, when the dews fall, and you’ll be fairies all.” – Emily Dickinson

The Daufuskie Island Lighthouse

Today’s post includes another image from our recent trip to Hilton Head, SC.  Daufuskie Island is accessible only by boat with most native residents being descendants of freed slaves.  The island offers a vast amount of history for those who are history enthusiasts.  You can visit the following link to learn more about the lighthouse pictured below:  http://www.daufuskieisland.com/sol/ghost/.  Legend has it that the lighthouse is haunted by a ghost named Maggie.

A Sign to Catch the Eye

Driving along the road the other day this sign caught my attention.  It made my husband and I laugh to think of Abraham Lincoln’s face above a sign that holds this message.  The message in and of itself was humorous…a throwback for sure with the waterbed.  Do they still make them?

The Delay III

Another image from my time spent in the airport last Friday.

People watching has to be the best free entertainment in the world.  It is captivating and the hours pass by so quickly when there are people to observe.  This image may not be the best technically, but I love it.  It speaks volumes and images that tell stories are, to me, the best.  I had my shutter speed set to 60 and was actually focusing on the man looking at magazines when the others quickly popped into the frame.  The result – significant motion blur.  Does it bother me?  Not all.  To me it defines what air travel is – fast paced and often rushed, at least in my world.
