Objects of Desire

Objects of Desire

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” – Mario Andretti

I love this quote and it relates so well to dancers and their dream of achieving the advancement to pointe shoes.  The quote comes from someone who accomplished his dreams and lived in the fast lane, something that you don’t typically associate with dancers.  However, driving does require a high level of skill and the dedication to the goal of winning is no different than that of what it takes to become a prima ballerina.  You would not typically think of race car driving and dancing as being in the same class, but when it comes to the desire to succeed, dedication, pursuit, excellence and even grace, the two can be associated.  I think it is safe to say that there is a certain level of grace that goes with steering a car at high speeds – no?  Or is it just being smooth?

I have a huge favor to ask all of my followers who happen to be on Facebook.  I am trying to increase the number of likes on my Robyn Graham Photography page.  I use Facebook for business purposes and am trying to increase traffic to my Facebook page to eventually lead more people to my website.  The growth in awareness of my business is important with my studio opening in September.  Thank you in advance for your consideration.  I am happy to return the favor, just leave your link in the comment section of this post.

Enjoy the weekend!

For a shoot last week I brought out some props that I found at an antique shop.  So many ways to use these little treasures!

More to come!

The hands in the photograph, as the caption reads are my grandmothers.  She is 90 years young and I simply adore her!

Black and White Flower

Flower I

SS 1/60 f10.0 ISO 400

This image was taken last week during a trip to Grand Cayman Island. I found the flower on the ground when visiting the Botanical Garden and placed it on a fence railing to photograph it. I am not quite sure what the name of this flower is, but am thinking it must be in either the anemone or daisy families.

The image above was part of my introductory post at a new blog titled Monocromia.  The blog was initiated by my friend Joe, from The Visual Chronicle.  Joe invited several photographers from around the world to be part of his initiative to start a black and white only photography blog.  Each day of the week a different photographer will be posting a black and white image.  My post was the third post on the new blog and after just three posts, the blog is doing quite well with a gaining number of followers.  For the black and white enthusiasts, be sure to stop by Monochromia and see the beautiful work by many talented artists.  In addition, another blog well worth visiting for those who love black and white photography is Leanne Cole’s Monochromatic Madness.  Every Tuesday Leanne posts black and white images by various photographers.  Always incredible talent to be seen.

My intention is to not always duplicate my posts on Monochromia and here, but to have different images shared on the different sites.  Time will be the ultimate deciding factor, however.  I also hope to send more images over to Leanne for inclusion in her Monochrome Madness series.  We’ll see how successful I am…with the preparations for the studio opening in September and the kids home for summer my time is proving to be limited.

Enjoy the day!

The Beast

Watch, don’t turn your back,

Never let your senses slack,

When into the woods

You journey.

For it is there,

That wild beasts lay idle,

And hide,

Until dusk draws near.

Then, just as the sun’s glow

Begins to fade,

The beasts awaken,

No longer hiding from the day’s trespassers.

They pounce,

And if you are not prepared,

Your heart may skip a beat, and

With a fleeting moment of fear,

You’ll run, then disappear.

Doylestown Art Days and Shop Sixty Five

It is with excitement that I write my post this evening.  Doylestown, in the heart of Bucks County Pennsylvania is an extraordinary community with a heavy focus on the arts.  Many artists; painters, authors, photographers, musicians, sculptors, potters, and others, have lived, or presently live in or around Doylestown.  Several artists lead by Stephanie Lisle, owner of the Bucks County Project Gallery, recently joined forces with the local business alliance and created the event “Doylestown Art Days”.  From June 5th to 8th over 60 merchants are opening their doors and giving local artists the opportunity to display their work in a unique environment.  I feel very blessed to say that I was paired with “Shop Sixty Five“.  “Shop Sixty Five” is a unique and fabulous boutique in Doylestown.  To describe it as the height of fashion is an understatement.  The staff is always eager to serve customers and help them find exactly what they are looking for and what makes them feel and look great.

I am thrilled to be displaying 6 to 8 of my fine art pieces in “Shop Sixty Five” this week and even more delighted that I had the pleasure to photograph the beautiful ladies that work in the store.  They were so fun to work with, so photogenic, and so very gracious to let me spend hours in their store photographing.  You probably won’t hear from me the rest of the week as I am busy framing and matting the portraits (17 of them) to be displayed in addition to my fine art pieces.  Wish me luck and let me know what you think of the sample of images below!  I always love to hear from you!
