Spring Fever

“It’s spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”  – Mark Twain

Spring fever. I have always had a “feeling”  as Winter leaves and Spring approaches.  I suppose it is a feeling of hope, renewal, joy, a freshness of heart. I, like Mark Twain, cannot pin point it, but it’s there.  Just a feeling…..and a desire.  Maybe the desire is for renewal, for change, for something happy after the dark days of winter.  The warm sun on my face, the flowers everywhere I look, the vibrant green grass, people around the neighborhood making appearances after being inside all winter, the buds on the trees – all things that make me smile.  Perhaps that is the ache Twain speaks of – the ultimate desire for beauty, for happy people, for friends all around, for fresh smiles.

The blooms on the pear tree made me smile today.  I love the white flowers and the way they invite one to step up close and breath them in.

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold:  when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”  – Charles Dickens
