What I dream of…

Serenity

“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” – Henri Matisse

Notice the shutter speed above.  The long exposure created the soothing, serenity effect of the water.  Long exposure is my favorite technique when shooting water.  I love the calming feeling that lends to mindfulness, peace and a joyful heart.

Bagpipe Player at Sunset

“No other game combines the wonder of nature with the discipline of sport in such carefully planned ways. A great golf course both frees and challenges a golfer’s mind.” – Tom Watson

This image was taken during the 5:15 pm bagpipe session at Spanish Bay Golf Resort.  The sun was setting and the haze, clouds, and colors were dynamic.  I wanted to capture the bagpipe player in a mystical, yet methodical way, thus I used the background as my focus and captured the bagpipe player as a silhouette so that the mind naturally wonders to the sound of the music amidst the light and the ocean breeze.

To see this image in black and white – just as dramatic as the image in color, visit Monochromia, a black and white photography blog, for my Thursday post.  I’d love to hear which image you prefer.

Have a fabulous weekend!  And, may the sun be at your back.
